Wembley Concerts and Sporting Events from North West Moran base

Posted: December 17, 2010

The few weeks coming up to Christmas and afterwards into the New Year promise to be a busy and entertaining few weeks especially when it comes to the imminent music and sporting events that will be showing in London’s Wembley arena close to our Crown Moran Hotel base in Cricklewood, and no we are not talking about X-factor finals.

With the end of the year in sight many of the countries top artists are finishing their years’ tour in the last few weeks of December. And it was no surprise last Friday and Saturday night, when Wembley Arena played host to two perennial legends of British music, Paul Weller and Status Quo, both of whom needed very little introduction to music fans of all ages having produced between them some of the most iconic songs of the last 40 years.

Last weekends highlights began with the modfather of rock Paul Weller of The Jam and Style Council fame playing the last leg of his 2010 tour in style at Wembley arena last Friday night on December the 9th. And on the following evening Saturday the 10th , it was the turn of evergreen 70’s boogie rock stadium fillers Status Quo to take over the music legends theme when they played another of their many entertaining live shows in Wembley.

After last weekends extravaganza of old-school rock brilliance, showing the young generation there’s much more to music than what we see on mainstream tv, Wembley will continue to rock and carry on the classics theme. For on this upcoming Saturday the 18th December, Wembley will be transformed into an interactive and stunning setting as it stages another famous 1970’s music maker, when the live musical version of Jeff Waynes magnificent “War of the Worlds” takes over the arena in an atmospheric and brilliantly modern take on his haunting 1978 album.

And after all these large concerts leading up to the Christmas holidays, there is much to look forward to in the New Year with the emphasis on sport with the Masters Snooker competition, snookers most prestigious invitation tournament, kicking off the 2011 season at Wembley on Sunday 9th January 2011. This star filled competition will help ring in the first few shots of the new season with some thrilling matches expected from the superstars of snooker.

With concerts from the iconic and consistently brilliant rockers Paul Weller and Status Quo, the thrilling and unique spectacle of the Jeff Wayne acclaimed musical “War of the Worlds” all in December and the start of the snooker season kicking off in style with the first tournament Masters Snooker taking place in January, Wembley arena and the north west area of London is set for an exciting and event filled couple of weeks leading up to and continuing after the festive season, making it an ideal place to visit for some non traditional festive celebrations.

Cork based Accommodation for Cork Entertainment Events

Posted: December 15, 2010

This weekend, in the week prior to the kick off of the main Christmas celebrations and Pantomine season in Cork city, there is a number of entertaining events, concerts and shows on offer in the city to whet ones appetite for the approaching festive season celebrations. Not too far from the main Cork city accommodation at our Silversprings Moran hotel and right in the heart of the city, lies Cork cities main theatre Cork Opera House which s playing host to a number of busy shows for all tastes this weekend with a varied programme for fans of theatre, film, comedy and music.

This Thursday the 9th December is proving to be quite busy with the sold out show of the National Theatre of Londons production of “Hamlet”, but on the same night there is a treat for film lovers as Cork Cine Clubs ten week season of independent film continues on its second week this Thursday at Cork Opera House’s Half Moon Theatre with a showing of “Samson and Delilah” starting at 8:30pm.

If ones whose idea of a good night out, particularly in these times, is a good laugh out and a humorous take on life as opposed to theatre or film, the following night, Friday the 10th December starting at 8pm, Cork Opera House will host the ever popular and internationally recognised Irish comic Jason Byrne who returns to Ireland and indeed to Cork along with his trademark quick fire manic wit for what promises to be a fun night.

And if that’s not enough for music fans there is still one more thing to look forward to this weekend in Cork with “Man in the Mirror: The Music of Michael Jackson” a tribute in music to the works of late and great Michael Jackson also showing at the Opera House at 8pm on Sunday 12th December. Charting Jackson’s story through some stunning renditions of his large catalogue of hits starting with “Bille Jean” in the 70’s right up to “Earth Song” in the 90’s, all performed by renowned Jackson impersonator Anthony Walker along with a full backing band in support this show promises to be a welcome and breathtaking treat for true Michael Jackson fans and lovers of music.

With a fun and varied lineup of evening entertainment in Cork city, and that’s only taking in the shows on offer in only one of its theatres, we’re not taking into account the festive vibe in the streets, the pubs and clubs around the city, there is much to see and do for those paying a visit to Cork city from our Cork base this weekend.
